A man - who doesn't wish to be named - suspected his house in the Tyne and Wear was haunted and called in the Gateshead Paranormal Society to investigate.
And, on Sunday evening, what they believe to be a ghost was not only detected but also caught on camera.
Terry Johnson - founding member of the Gateshead Paranormal Society - set up a camera in the family home.
After asking the spirits to reveal themselves, a chair pushed into the kitchen table moved two feet without any human interaction.
Terry told the Newcastle Chronicle: "We were just gobsmacked when we saw it.
"We have never had anything like that before and we haven't stopped talking about it since.
"It’s the most compelling evidence we have got up to now on an investigation.
" Ghost enthusiast Terry set up the GPS with a former colleague who also had a keen interest in paranormal activity.
The owner of the property also spoke to the regional paper, revealing he knew something was wrong when his dog started behaving oddly.
He said: ""There were things happening we couldn't explain, things like a sauce bottle being turned on its side for no reason.
"And our dog would sometimes just stand and look into space which he never did in the last house.
"That got the alarm bells ringing."
After the ghost was detected, the home owner admitted he slept much more soundly - despite previous worries. He added:
"When I went to bed at first I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep, but I don't feel any different now.
"This has just confirmed what I thought all along, but it seems it's a friendly ghost.
"I really wasn't that surprised, I knew something wasn't right.
"I have always believed in ghosts."
